NO MASKING. NO COVER-UPS.

HOW IT
WORKS.

Sweat itself doesn’t smell. It’s the bacteria feeding on the damp your kit never fully dries out of. AFTERPLAY is built around one idea — kill the bacteria and the smell never turns up.

POWERED BY TEA TREE

Natural tea tree oil has been studied for decades for its antibacterial and antifungal properties. It works on the microbes behind the smell, not just the smell itself.

DESTROYS ODOUR, DOESN’T MASK IT

No perfume, no cover-up. AFTERPLAY goes for the odour-causing bacteria at the source, so your gear comes back smelling like nothing rather than something else.

PREVENTS THE BUILD-UP

Used after every session, it keeps bacteria and trapped moisture from turning into that lingering smell — so gear stays fresher for longer between washes.

THE ACTIVE

NEW ZEALAND
TEA TREE.

The whole range hangs off one ingredient: a tea tree extract from New Zealand. It’s the same plant that’s been studied for decades for what it does to bacteria and fungi — the two things that turn sweat into smell.

NATURAL EXTRACT

Distilled from the leaves of the tea tree rather than synthesised in a tank. One plant, doing one job — keeping gear honest without harsh chemicals.

ANTIBACTERIAL

Studied for decades against the bacteria that set up in damp kit and break sweat down into smell. It works on the cause, not the symptom.

ANTIFUNGAL

The same extract is known for holding mould and mildew in check — which is why a bag left shut for a week comes out smelling sour.

ODOUR, NOT MASKED

No perfume layer laid over the top. Once the microbes are gone, there is simply nothing left to smell.

SAFE FOR RUBBER.

Rubber is in more of your gear than you’d think — soles, mats, straps and seals. The tea tree extract is safe on rubber, so it won’t dry it out, soften it or leave it tacky. Spray it on and let it air dry. Rubber grips and handles are the one exception — leave those to AFTERPLAY PRO.

THE GRIP SPOTLIGHT

CRICKET HANDLES.
GOLF CLUBS.

No piece of gear takes more sweat than a grip. Cricket bat handles and golf club grips are wrapped in rubber, worked by hand all game and never, ever washed — so the smell moves in and stays. Here’s what Afterplay Pro — the only spray in the range made for this gear — does for each.

CRICKET BAT HANDLES

  • CANE & RUBBER HANDLESA cricket bat handle is layers of cane and cork wrapped in a rubber grip tube. It soaks up sweat and season after season of play — and it can never go in the wash.
  • WHERE THE SMELL SETTLESSweat works down under the wrap where no cloth reaches, and the rubber holds the smell for good. A spray that mists through is the only clean the handle gets.
  • AFTER EVERY SESSIONMist the handle end thoroughly, let it air dry overnight, and it goes back in the bag fresh rather than feral.

GOLF CLUB GRIPS

  • RUBBER COMPOUND GRIPSGolf grips are natural rubber compounds, synthetic EPDM or injected SEBS-based TPEs — the kind of materials harsh cleaners quietly eat away at.
  • GLUED & TAPED ONGrips are fixed to steel or graphite shafts with rubber solvents or double-sided tape. Strong cleaners soften that bond and can work a grip loose.
  • TACKY WHEN FRESHA clean grip keeps its tack, so your hands stay quiet through the swing. Mist it on, let it air dry, and test a small hidden area first.

HANDLE
& GRIPS.

Handles, grips and padding are the hardest things in the kit bag to clean. They can’t be soaked, scrubbed or put through a wash — and they’re made of rubber, foam and latex, the very materials harsh cleaners quietly eat away at. Afterplay Pro is the only spray in the AFTERPLAY range made for this gear: mist it on, let it air dry. AFTERPLAY GEAR isn’t made for them — Pro is.

STRIKING & CLUB GRIPS

  • GOLF CLUB GRIPSNatural rubber compounds, synthetic EPDM or injected SEBS-based TPE, glued onto steel or graphite shafts with rubber solvents or double-sided tape — sensitive to harsh cleaners.
  • BASEBALL & SOFTBALL BATSHandle wraps in vulcanised synthetic rubber, polyurethane foam or vulcanised polymer wraps, built to absorb high-impact vibration.
  • FIELD HOCKEY & HURLING STICKSGrips wrapped in synthetic rubber or perforated TPE tape, designed to hold their tackiness when wet.
  • RACKET HANDLESMoulded polyurethane or soft synthetic rubber base grips on tennis, squash and badminton handles, usually under a soft elastomer overgrip.

PROTECTIVE WEAR & PADDING

  • GOALKEEPER & RECEIVER GLOVESLatex rubber foam palms for maximum friction on the catch — latex foam breaks down fast around alcohol, strong sanitizers and UV light.
  • PADS, SHIN GUARDS & HEADGEARNeoprene and closed-cell EPDM foam in rugby, hockey and martial arts protection, plus the elastic straps that hold it on.

TRAINING & SURFACE EQUIPMENT

  • YOGA & EXERCISE MATSNatural tree rubber, NBR nitrile or TPE — the surfaces that go slippery once sweat and detergent build up.
  • RESISTANCE BANDS & LOOPSNatural latex or synthetic rubber, which lose elasticity and crack when they meet oil-based cleaners or solvents.
  • PLATES & DUMBBELL COATINGSHeavy-duty vulcanised rubber on bumper plates and weight heads, taking the impact and protecting gym floors.

What wrecks this gear is rubber solvents, alcohol-heavy sanitizers and oil-based sprays — they soften the glue holding a club grip on its shaft, chalk out a latex glove palm and leave bands and mats cracking. The extract at the heart of AFTERPLAY is safe for rubber, so grips, pads, gloves, mats and bands can be sprayed and left to air dry. Test a small hidden area first.

GRIP QUESTIONS.

HANDLED.
ANSWERED.

The two pieces of gear people ask about most: a cricket bat handle and a set of golf club grips. Both are rubber, both get soaked in sweat, and neither can be washed. Here’s what to actually do with them.

Do I have to take the grip off a cricket bat handle?

No — and that’s the whole point. The sweat that causes the smell works its way down under the rubber wrap, into the cane and cork, where no cloth can reach. Pulling the grip off would mean re-gripping the bat. A fine mist soaks through the wrap and works on the odour-causing bacteria underneath, so the handle gets clean without coming apart.

Will it soften a golf grip or work it loose off the shaft?

No. What loosens a grip is the harsh stuff — rubber solvents, alcohol-heavy sanitizers and oil-based cleaners, which attack the solvent bond or the double-sided tape holding a grip on its shaft. The extract at the heart of Afterplay is safe for rubber, so it won’t dry the grip out, swell it or lift the bond. Mist it, leave it to air dry, and test a small hidden area first.

How often should I spray a bat handle or a set of grips?

A cricket handle after every session is the sweet spot — that’s where the sweat is heaviest and the wrap never comes off. Golf grips are lighter work: after a hot round, or a couple of times a week through a stretch of play, keeps them fresh and tacky.

How long before it can go back in the bag?

Let it air dry first. A grip packed away wet just moves the damp into the bag, which is where the smell came from in the first place. Golf grips are usually dry in the time it takes to pack the bag; a bat handle is better left out of its cover overnight.

Will it leave the handle or the grip slippery?

Not once it’s dry. It’s a mist, not an oil — no silicone or conditioning film is left behind to make a handle slick. Don’t spray a grip you’re about to play with; give it time to dry and the tack comes back.

Can I just wipe it down or soak the handle instead?

Wiping only reaches the outside of the wrap, and soaking is what ruins a handle — water swells the cane and lifts the wrap away from the cane and cork underneath. Spray lightly and often rather than drenching it, and let the extract do the work below the surface.

It’s a new bat or a fresh set of grips — when do I start?

From the first session. The smell isn’t something that suddenly appears — it builds from the sweat the first game leaves in the wrap. Spraying after every use from day one is what keeps a handle from ever getting there.

My bat handle already smells. Can it still be saved?

Usually, yes. It works on the bacteria causing the smell rather than covering the smell up, so a handle that’s gone musty will normally improve over a few sessions of spray and air dry. A wrap that’s been soaked through for years may never come back fully — either way, this is what stops it getting worse.

THE GRIP RITUAL.

  • 01
    MIST THE HANDLE.

Mist the grip until the surface is evenly damp — not soaked. A fine mist is what works its way through the wrap.

  • 02
    LET IT DRY.

Air dry it, overnight if you can for a bat handle. A handle packed away wet is where the smell started.

  • 03
    DO IT EVERY TIME.

Spray straight after the session, before the gear goes back in the bag. Regular is what keeps a handle fresh.

As with any new spray, test a small hidden area of the grip first and let it dry fully before you play.

SPRAY THE GRIP
GOOD QUESTIONS.

LET’S CLEAR
THINGS UP.

What’s in afterplay?

A New Zealand tea tree extract, mixed to be sprayed straight onto gear. It’s naturally antibacterial and antifungal, so it works on the microbes that cause the smell rather than covering the smell up. Final ingredient directions will be confirmed before launch.

How does it actually get rid of the smell?

It goes for the cause, not the symptom. Odour shows up when bacteria break down the sweat left in damp kit. The tea tree at the heart of AFTERPLAY works on those bacteria, so the smell isn’t covered up — it’s removed at the source.

Is it safe on rubber?

Yes. The tea tree extract is safe for rubber, so bat grips, boot soles, mats and straps are all fine. As with any new spray, test a small hidden area first and let it dry properly.

Why a spray just for handles and grips?

Because that gear can’t be washed. Club grips are glued onto shafts, glove palms are latex foam, and mats and bands crack when oil-based cleaners get into them. Afterplay Pro is an extract spray for exactly those materials — mist it on, let it air dry, and test a small hidden area first.

How do I use afterplay?

The range is designed around a simple post-training routine. Spray thoroughly, let the gear dry properly, and test on a small hidden area first. Always follow the final directions on each product label.

Can I order yet?

Yes — the Afterplay Double and the Multisport Player are in the shop now. Add them to your bag and check out securely through Shopify. Afterplay Pro is still coming soon.

How much is shipping?

Shipping anywhere in New Zealand is a flat NZ$7.95, added at checkout.
